Buckingham Place: Where a New Story is About to Unfold

By Jane Claspy Nesmtih

A quiet, tree-lined neighborhood where children play in front yards, parents relax on wide front porches, and all the residents know one another. New homes with all the latest technology and amenities and good old-fashioned quality.

Burger Homes and Development is about to begin building a neighborhood in Marion that will live up to this description.

Buckingham Place, the cul-de-sac that anchors this new neighborhood, will be popular with all kinds of families. “The only traffic is people who live here, so kids can play in the street and front yards,” says Deb Burger, marketing director of Burger Homes and Development. “And it’s so easy to get to know neighbors.” As homes are completed and families move in, the story of this neighborhood will take shape.

Just around the corner, at 1144 Portsmouth Circle, interested homebuyers can visit an excellent example of the kind of home that Burger Homes can create.

With a peaked roofline, stone and shake exterior, and a lush lawn that’s already been landscaped, this new home looks established. Its deep covered front porch is the perfect place to sit and chat with neighbors or watch the kids play. Leaded glass in the front door and sidelights adds a special touch.

Walk in through that front door, and you’ll feel the “rustic chic” vibe, balancing polished and rougher elements to create a pleasing overall look. Walnut floors and large windows with transoms throughout the home tie things together, and the serene gray and brown color scheme will please everyone. Anchoring the home’s great room is a linear electric fireplace. Unique granite wallpaper on that wall creates a look that’s both sparkly and rough--the perfect example of rustic chic.

Alder cabinets with quirky knots and a great wood grain line the kitchen walls, going all the way up to the ten-foot ceilings. A glass tile backsplash adds a note of subtle color and shine, and granite countertops offer plenty of workspace. Bob Burger, who’s had nearly 40 years of experience in homebuilding, designs all the kitchens himself. “He knows how to make the kitchen efficient as well as beautiful,” says Deb Burger. Besides a kitchen peninsula with space for seating, there’s also a small kitchen island equipped with an outlet and featuring shelves for cookbooks.

Next to the kitchen is a large dining room. It can accommodate a table that can seat up to twelve, with plenty of room for a buffet. Expand your living out to the home’s enclosed porch. EZ Breeze windows are completely adjustable so that an evening’s breeze can come in, but rain can be kept out.

The master suite, located just beyond the great room, is a place of relaxation and serenity. Besides a spacious room with windows overlooking the backyard, a large spa-like bathroom has all the amenities: dual vanities, a large whirlpool tub, tile walk-in shower with three shower heads, and separate water closet.

Just beyond the master bath is an enormous luxury closet. Boasting two windows and ten-foot ceilings, this is a truly custom closet. A shoe carousel can fit from 50 to 100 pairs of shoes, deep shelves keep purses and sweaters neat, and three separate hanging racks keep everything at your fingertips.

Also on this floor are two additional bedrooms at the other end of the home. They share a full bathroom with an extra-large tub. Another guest bathroom, drop zone, and laundry room complete this main floor.

Down an angled staircase is the home’s spacious lower level. Just at the bottom of the stairs is another useful luxury: a second full kitchen behind an inviting granite bar long enough to seat eight comfortably. There’s a full refrigerator, cook top, microwave, and dishwasher, along with lots of cabinets and a tile backsplash like the kitchen’s. Just through a sliding glass door is the patio, surrounded by a low stone wall.

For indoor entertaining, this level has two main living areas. One has a gas fireplace and a bonus room that is wired for cable, internet, and audio--it could be a theatre room, game room, exercise room, or even hobby room. The other living area is also ready for TV or internet. Two more bedrooms here share a full bath, and there’s another guest bathroom--the home has five bathrooms overall.

Throughout this home there are plenty of storage areas--cabinets, closets, and shelves. Even the furnace room has shelves for storage--no need to put that item on the honey-do list after you move in. “We make our homes truly move-in ready,” explains Deb Burger. “All you have to do is park your car and unpack your stuff, and you’ll be moved in.”
