Stunning From the Inside Out

If you saw the Sunderman Custom Home entry for the 2013 Parade of Homes, you certainly won’t forget it. With its unique stacked stone exterior--dark stone going from the ground to peaked roof--this home at 5812 River Parkway NE has stunning curb appeal. Inside and out, it’s a legacy home with top-notch design and luxury appointments.

Walk up to the front porch and be welcomed into the home through the elegant front door. Twelve-foot ceilings in the entryway continue on into the great room, which beckons the visitor. Wrap-around windows cased out in cherry stained trim in the great room create a unique look. The wall of windows curves around to make the most of the view out the back and side of the home to a gentle slope up to the woods. The slope is already planted with wildflowers for a colorful vista. With so many windows, the room is flooded with natural light, which brings out the warm hues of the natural finished red oak floors.

A three-sided glassed-in fireplace creates delineation between the great room and the home’s gourmet kitchen. Clearly, this kitchen will be a gathering place for friends and family. With a two-level kitchen island made of dark-stained cherry, topped with granite, and lighted with a row of graceful pendant lights, there’s room for eating or relaxing. Dark-stained cherry cabinets, continue the warm wood theme from the great room as do the three-panel solid-core doors and oversized trim. A pantry complete with wood shelving will keep this kitchen neat.

Besides the countertop eating area, there’s also plenty of space for a table in the kitchen. On warm days, you might want to go out the sliding doors to a raised deck. For more formal occasions, there’s a stunning formal dining room at the front of the house.

The master bedroom, on one side of the great room and kitchen area, feels cozy and secluded. Ceilings are nine feet here, and there is rope lighting in the soffit. A big window facing the home’s wooded backyard lets in light. Spacious and spa-like, the master bathroom features a quiet and relaxing air tub, two sinks, and a tiled walk-in shower with rain head and three additional shower jets. The floors are heated to make those cold winter mornings more bearable. A walk-in closet is already furnished with wooden shelves; wooden shelves are installed throughout the home.

Also on this main floor is an additional bedroom at the front of the home that could also be used as an office or sitting room. Adjacent to it is a full bathroom and a linen closet. Right off the entry from the extra-deep three-car heated garage is the home’s laundry room and drop zone.

A small family could easily live on this level, but this home also has a full lower level, also beautifully designed for relaxing and entertaining. At the bottom of the staircase is a spacious family room area with plenty of room for couches or even a game table. Sliding doors lead out to a stamped concrete patio below the raised deck—and from there out to the home’s spacious lawn. It’s not often that new homes in the ranch walk-out style have a useable back yard—this one is not only useable but beautiful.

Also on the lower level is a full bar. Featuring a sink, full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and wine refrigerator, the bar offers a great place to entertain, with no need to run upstairs for anything. A theatre room with stepped floor and built-in speakers offers space for a 120-inch projector screen.

The third and fourth bedrooms of this home face the sunny backyard and share a spacious tiled full bathroom at the end of the hallway.

Like this luxurious home, all Sunderman Custom Homes come with many amenities you might expect to pay extra for: central vacuum, security system, irrigation system, and whole-house sound, to name a few. With over 25 years experience in the construction industry, Jerry Sunderman knows how to pursue quality in a custom home. Whether you’re interested in looking at this home, or whether you have plans of your own you’d like to bring to life, Sunderman Custom Homes has the quality and value you trust.
