Nature lovers will find themselves right at home in a house built by Sunderman Construction.
Located at 5408 River Parkway NE in Cedar Rapids, the home takes full advantage of its one-acre wooded lot in the rolling hills of the Usher’s Ridge subdivision.
A wall of windows in both the upper and lower levels allows abundant natural light into the interior of the home, while literally offering a window into the outside world. Turkey, squirrels, deer and other wildlife provide a soothing source of diversion from the modern world, with mature maples and other trees offering a colorful backdrop, especially in the fall.
With smoky gray tones and stacked stone, the exterior of the home also harmonizes with its surroundings. The stacked stone and color scheme are echoed in the interior, starting with the first step inside.
A 12-foot-high ceiling in the great room is accentuated by the white beams of the coffered ceiling, which provide a rustic character and set the spacious ambience felt throughout the house. A floor-to-ceiling fireplace mimics the stacked stone of the home’s exterior, with gunsmoke tones of the custom built-ins also carrying the tenor of the exterior indoors and crystal lighting glimmering in the dining room, kitchen and entryway.
The covered upper deck provides an opportunity for an even closer view of nature, with a rustic pine ceiling, easy-care composite deck boards, a ceiling fan and maintenance-free hand rails, offering the perfect setting to enjoy stunning views at any time of day. Just below, a patio with a stamped concrete floor provides ample space for outdoor entertaining.
With 2,400-square-feet on the main level and 2,300 on the lower level, the house has plenty of space, featuring six bedrooms and 3 ½ bathrooms. Its zero-entry design means no steps to navigate, which can be particularly helpful for homeowners with accessibility needs.
Sunderman Construction offers a new floor plan in the home, with the design placing two bedrooms and a full bathroom at one end and the master bedroom and bath at the other.
In between, the gourmet kitchen features a 10-foot-tall ceiling, granite counters with complementing backsplashes, under- and above-cabinet lighting and rain glass that exudes a classic quality in the upper cabinetry.
The spacious laundry and mud room is conveniently located just off the kitchen and the garage, with a coat closet, custom shoe rack, lockers and built-ins, offering ample spots for backpacks, boots and more. Linen closets also provide abundant storage space in convenient spots throughout the home.
A central vacuum system is available to clean out cars in the heated, four-stall garage, along with hot and cold water, floor drains and a home security system.
The master bedroom features a tray ceiling and transom window above the bed for even more natural light, while the master bath includes a whirlpool tub, custom-tiled oversized shower and heated floors, along with granite countertops, which are standard throughout the home. Wooden shelving, present in the ample-sized closet, also is standard in the house.
Carpeted stairs lead to the fully finished lower level, which is just as well-lit as the main floor, with windows providing streams of natural light. One of the highlights sits just under the stairs, with a door leading to a reading room, perfect for a child to have his or her own space for a personal play area.
Downstairs bedrooms can be used as guest rooms, office space or more play space, while the wet bar features wine and full-sized refrigerators and heated floors.
Another highlight is the large theatre room, featuring a 120-inch projection screen. The room, surrounded by concrete walls, serves a dual-purpose as a storm shelter. Dual-zone heating, LED lighting and other energy-efficient features make the home exceed Energy Star ratings, while an irrigation system outdoors helps conserve water.
Many of the features in the home on River Parkway come standard in Sunderman Construction, one of Eastern Iowa’s leading builders of exceptional custom homes. Sunderman is committed to exceptional quality and craftsmanship at a great price and continually updates its standard features to incorporate the latest trends into all of its homes, many of which would be considered upgrades with other conventional builders.
