Wooded Retreat in a Sunderman Home

Tucked in a wooded subdivision of Cedar Rapids near Ely, one of Sunderman Construction’s newest homes offers the convenience of the city in a secluded setting.
The four-bedroom, three-bath home, at 4915 Misty Morning Ct. SW, takes full advantage of the scenery, with stunning views of rolling hills and timber. Located on a 2.25 acre wooded lot, the home’s location provides privacy, but with quick access to the city via Highway 30.
Kentucky dry stack on the exterior sets the tone for the natural feel indoors. Walking inside, the first impression is a spectacular one, with a wall of windows in the living room overlooking the woods. While the room is wired, there really is no need for a television screen, as nature provides the focal point.
A three-sided glass fireplace enhances the living room, exuding warmth with a sleek, modern vibe, and the 12-foot ceiling creates a spacious appearance that reverberates throughout the home.
The main level of the zero-entry home features more than 2,500 square feet, with more than 4,700-square-feet total. Because the house is finished from top to bottom, prospective homeowners need only to move in with their belongings.
Neutral tones on the walls complement the lighter-hued red oak flooring and off-white cabinetry in the gourmet kitchen, while offering a pleasing contrast with the darker tones of the granite counter tops in the kitchen island. The staggered placement of the kitchen cabinets add to the home’s modern feel.
The popular open floor plan allows the homeowners to tailor the space on the main level, with a four-seasons room just off the kitchen that could serve as an eating area, a cozy sitting room or an office with a view of the woodlands, while a front bedroom could alternately be used for guests or office space and a more formal dining room off the entrance of the home could host a variety of uses for entertaining guests and more.
A deck off the four-seasons room will give the homeowners and guests an up-close view of the nature that abounds outdoors.
The tray ceiling provides an added dimension to the master bedroom, where pale, mission-style doors mimic the color palette elsewhere in the home. The master bathroom is a spacious retreat in itself, with a whirlpool tub and custom tiled shower within an expansive 11-by-16 foot space. Heated flooring in the master bath means no cold feet, even in the middle of winter.
Carpeted stairs complement the dark stair railing that leads to the finished lower level, full of amenities. The wall of windows in the living room upstairs echoes in the game room downstairs, with plenty of space for a pool table or other forms of recreation or exercise equipment, and a walk-out to the outdoor patio.
The two lower-level bedrooms are served by a full, spacious bathroom, while a full wet bar features a full-sized refrigerator, wine refrigerator and dishwasher, backed by tastefully designed cabinetry in dark wood.
Tucked under the stairs, storage space offers an out-of-the-way spot to hold electronic components for the downstairs theater room. The cozy theater sports a 120-inch screen and plenty of space for seating on a multi-level floor.
Sunderman homes exceed Energy Star ratings and all come standard with a central vacuum system, an irrigation system that conserves water by directing it exactly where and when it is needed, a security system for peace of mind and wiring for a Sonos sound system.
The house on Misty Morning Court features a four-car, heated garage with water and floor drains, while just inside, a laundry room offers convenience on the home’s main level and a drop zone provides lockers and space for coats, backpacks and more.
Visitors on the Spring Parade of Homes were able to get a first-hand look at the exceptional quality and craftsmanship evidenced in the Sunderman Construction home.
