Dogs Days at K9Cola Splash to Benefit Offleash Dog Parks
Nothing signifies summer like the smell of wet dog, and K9COLA’s 2017 K9SPLASH! Dog Swim is happening August 12 and 13 at Bever Park Pool for dogs of all shapes and sizes. The fun includes two full days for your dog to enjoy the pool and frolic and play with other dogs; and each dog will receive a goodie bag from our sponsors. Food vendors this year include Keeping Up With the Jones’s and Fruitzen, which will donate a percentage of sales to the event. This event features other dog activities, vendors, and door prizes and giveaways throughout the day. The fee for the event this year is $15 per dog, per day at the gate or pre-register in person at the at the Northwest Rec Center (1340 11th St NW, Cedar Rapids, 319-286-5731), or online at the official K9COLA website www.k9cola.org for just $10 per dog per day.

Our Small Dog Swim Small kicks off both days from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Dogs under 15” at the shoulder will be allowed in the pool on their own and may stay in the pool as the event opens for bigger dogs from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Every dog owner must also complete a rules and waiver form available on the K9COLA website. Requirements include: one adult handler must accompany each dog and you must provide proof of distemper, rabies, and parvo from your veterinarian (an off-leash park permit will not work as proof). Children under 48” tall will not be allowed in the pool area during the event.

K9COLA (Citizens for Off-Leash Areas) is an all-volunteer group that supports the development and maintenance of off-leash areas (OLAs) in the Cedar Rapids area. The group provides the community with educational information about OLAs, raises money for park improvement projects, and supports ongoing park maintenance. K9COLA’s mission statement and values are available on its website at www.k9cola.org. Donations are always welcome and can be made directly through the website or by mail to;
P.O. Box 992 Cedar Rapids, IA 52406-0992. All donated funds are used to fulfill the organizational mission.

“K9SPLASH is a fun event for everyone, humans and dogs. The dogs have a blast playing in the water as a pack, and their owners have fun watching the dogs play and bonding with their best buds, all while helping raise funds for our non-profit. We have the best volunteers who work hard to make this event a success and we enjoy every minute of our comradery. K9COLA looks forward to making new friends and another great swim.” Dave Paris, Head Chair, K9COLA.

Currently, the community has two OLA’s; one at Cheyenne Park on the west side of Cedar Rapids, and one in Squaw Creek Park in Marion. Both parks currently feature a three yard system. A training yard for dogs still working on their recall, a small dog area, and main yard with a walking trail.
