A Remarkable Home with Casey Johannes Homes

Attention to detail makes every house constructed by Casey Johannes Homes unique.

Visitors on the Fall Parade of Homes saw that firsthand with a new development on Spring Valley Court, just off Curtis Bridge Road on the outskirts of Shueyville.

The home’s deep smoky gray exterior, enhanced by harmonious cultured stone, maintains a stately presence within the landscaped lawn, while tapered stone columns on the front stoop lead to an 8-foot-tall front door.

That unique appeal carries into the interior, where the high-ceilinged foyer features painted shiplap, a rough-sawn pine paneling, which creates a rustic look inside the home.

“I think it brings some warmth to the house,” Casey Johannes said, noting shiplap details elsewhere in the home, including shelving in the great room and the back wall of the first-floor powder room.

The powder room, tucked off the main staircase, features a pedestal sink set on herringbone flooring, providing another unique spot in the spacious home.

Room for an office is located in finished space above the side-load oversized, three-stall garage, carrying the theme of the home with rustic hardwood floors and shiplap on the walls.

The home’s main level features the same wide plank rustic flooring in an open floor plan, providing connection between the great room and kitchen.

“It’s very popular right now,” Johannes said of the plan. “We try to utilize as much space as possible.”

Notable features in the great room include a fireplace with cultured stone that echoes the home’s exterior, and custom-built cabinetry crafted from poplar wood.
Each piece was built and painted in place, noted Johannes, who does much of the work himself.

A large kitchen island with granite counter provides ample space for entertaining or room for children to do their homework and more, while the farm-style sink adds to the home’s character.

The kitchen’s walk-in hidden pantry also is amply sized to provide space for storage. Upscale, copper-toned lighting and a marble backsplash contribute additional unique details to the kitchen.

Just off the great room, two bedrooms have access to the Jack and Jill bathroom, with separate spaces connecting to the bedrooms, each with its own sink. The placement of the bedrooms, which sport good-sized closets with built-ins, offers younger family members their own side of the house.

Located on the other side of the kitchen, the master suite provides luxury on several fronts. A transom window over the door offers a unique detail for the sizable bedroom, and the 180-square-foot master closet has more than enough room for clothes, shoes and other accessories.

The master bathroom epitomizes opulence, with marble floors and a marble walk-in shower featuring body jets and a rain shower mode at the touch of a button, by Kohler.

“It’s definitely oversized,” Johannes said of the shower. “We wanted this to be a relaxing space.”

Back to reality, the laundry room continues the rustic theme with a barn-style door that can close off the space where children’s closets, hooks and more offer room for storage.

The home’s lower level provides space for additional bedrooms, an entertainment room, wet bar and more.

Outside, a covered deck provides stunning views of the wooded, private lot to the rear of the home, with an open portion of the deck for grilling. Just six homes are planned for the development, which affords plenty of space for each.

“You still have neighbors, but it’s a little more private,” Johannes said.

Johannes has more than 15 years of experience in the carpentry and building industry, including extensive work with concrete, framing and siding. During the last decade, he found his niche in finish carpentry and custom woodworking, which led him to his true passion: building custom homes.

“We’re a true custom builder,” Johannes said of all of the company’s homes, including the one on Spring Valley Court. “It’s definitely not a cookie-cutter house.”

Casey Johannes Homes has evolved into a full service construction company, offering a wide range of services from remodels to half-million dollar-and-up custom homes, while maintaining a dedication to quality craftsmanship and exceptional customer service.

Johannes noted that his team works with customers and listens to their ideas, while working within their budgets. From designing a home with the company’s architect, to working with skilled subcontractors, customers play a critical role in the development of their new home, he said.

“The subcontractors we use are great,” Johannes said. “They know what I expect and are on-task with everything. We’ve got a good team.”
